Quote of the Week by Arnold Newman

“Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.” —Arnold Newman (1913–2006)

American photographer Arnold Newman is best known for his environmental portraits of artists and politicians. He believed that an image should excite the viewer even if the subject is forgotten. He was also one of the few photographers who got to photograph the legendary Henry Cartier Bresson. In 2004, he was awarded The Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship for his contribution to the art of photography.
