Kawaii, overly simplified, is a Japanese word for cute. The word has been derived from a longer phase that describes someone who has started blushing (again, overly-simplifying here), and has come to have a cultural meaning that can be used to describe certain human (and non-human) qualities, specific styles of manga, handwriting, fashion, video, and so on. Generally, the over-all aesthetic has a clean and refined look accompanied with bright colours and a playful nature.
